So, I'm in need of advice from other parents out there.
When, exactly, do you cut your child's hair for the first time? Jenny was told yesterday that you "Don't do it before their first birthday pictures because they'll look like a big boy and not like a baby..."
What do we do about the over-the-ears fringe?
What about the mullet-like hair in the back?
The kid's definitely going to have thick hair. He doesn't stand a chance for thin or even average-thickness hair with either of our genes.
The birthday is 6 weeks away. Photos will be in a couple of weeks.

That's a good debate! We had to cut both our kids hair before 1 year. Landon was sporting a mullet that drove me crazy and Taylor had a rattail...not pretty! I say...if his hair is driving you crazy...cut it a little bit...then he will look super cute for his pictures with P.H.! You will love her by the way!! Landon finally stopped moving around in his big boy bed around 2.5. There were times I would go check on him and he would be sideways or turned around. We definitely invested in those bedrails!
i totally know the struggle!! you know how some kids have that thick curly cute and beautiful hair?!?! not jay! he had/has a beautiful mullet/rat tail. we also were told over and over by people not to cut it before a year. so, i got out the old trusty scissors and barely cut the overhang over the ears and evened out the mullet....and don't tell a soul! (well, i guess now i am) no one will notice but it will totally give you peace of mind and not make your precious baby not look so much like a joe dirt look-a-like (not that yours does at all...but we were SOOOO there!!)
All good questions! We trimmed Zach's over the ear hair ourselves, and he got his real first haircut when he was about one year old.
The hair on the back of his head was very ratty, so it looked SO much better after it was cut.
A little trim around the ears is not considered a hair cut in my opinion...so if it bothers you, I would trim it a little, and then you can do the big boy cut after he turns one!!! I can't believe it's only 6 weeks away!!
If it bothers you (and it sounds like it does), cut it for crying out loud. That person who told you not to isn't going to be the one shelling out mucho dinero for those 1yr pics. Make sure that boy looks his best. Mullet-free! He's so cute anyway though, I can't imagine he could ever take a bad picture.
