It's Not About Me...

It's really all about him.

He's the one that made me a father. This should be another occasion to celebrate his birth and how - in one dramatic moment - he changed my life forever.

Benjamin's birth wasn't easy. It was the scariest, most dramatic experience I ever hope to encounter. But when he finally cried out - I was instantly changed. I became a dad.

My life is no longer about my appearance, what I do, or where I live. My life is about being the most amazing father possible to this incredible son I have been given.

Thanks, little Bumbo, for giving me this occasion to celebrate.

Lillian Williams
1920-2009

Yesterday evening as I was driving home from church, Jenny's dad called to tell me that her grandmother had suffered a massive stroke and was in the ER. Jenny and I called our friends Hillary and Josh who rushed over to keep Benjamin while Jenny and I dashed to the hospital.

She was put on a ventilator until all three of her children arrived. Once they had, the decision was made to let her go. She breathed on her own for around eight more hours, and then let go this morning, just before 6 AM.

It's sad to know that Benjamin will never remember her, but we'll have stories to tell. In fact, I just returned home from Jenny's aunt Carolyn's house, where we all laughed about her adventures, and escapades through the years. Everyone was asked to sum her up in one word - words that will be used in her memorial service on Wednesday. Lots came to mind - faithful, seamstress, colorful, fashionable...slow-eater...

Personally, I think she was just what her name implied.

She was Grand.

Slides, Sprinklers, and Summer Fun

Well, the rains have finally slacked off, which means the sprinkler has come out. We were really surprised to see how much he enjoyed it. The water temperature is still pretty cold, but we had been out at a picnic at Burn's Park, and he was really hot.

He figured out when it was coming back his way, and he would head straight for it.

And steps are no longer a challenge...they're an instant attraction.

And we're in love with slides...straight, curved, short, long, plastic or metal...if he can sit down and shoot off, he's into it.

Have a great week's end.

Privacy, Please

I always love staying in different hotels to see how they choose to say, "Do Not Disturb." Some say, "Dream in Progress," some say "Privacy, Please." Intrigues me.

All that to say, we're going private July 1, 2009.

If you want to follow us, send us an email to thebunchfam@yahoo.com and we'll set you up to follow us. You'll just enter your email and choose a password once we're private.

Our friends Brad and Jill did this a while back. Another friend, Rebecca, and her husband are going private as well.

We get enough attention with his complexion and head full of curly red hair. I hate that this is what the world has come to, but there's nothing more important to us than keeping safe this precious gift that God has entrusted to us.

The Past Few Days

So the last few days, we've been looking for any activity that might serve to wear the little man out completely. Saturday it was the big dam bridge...running around, dodging runners and bikes, and watching a barge come through the lock.

Sunday evening and Monday evening were both church events which provided Ben with lots of outdoor time chasing anything and everything slightly resembling a ball.

But Friday was great fun...Friday we went to the zoo.

We go fairly often, but the last couple of times the animals have been sleeping or not even in their little spaces, so there hasn't been much to see. I guess they were enjoying the great weather.

We strolled a little, but mostly ran around and rode on Daddy's shoulders.

Never miss a chance to photograph a happy kid next to wildflowers...

The orangutans were apparently stressing over the fate of Jon and Kate's marriage...

This one so much that he had to cover his head with a sheet...

...While the male gorilla ponders whether the Zoo or
UAMS will receive the old ballpark property.

What's a day at the zoo without a family pic with a giant Gorilla?

Friday evening Josh and Hillary came over for dinner...Hill made some killer brownies, Jenny and I made lasagna, and we had some garlic bread that was entirely too garlic-ey. All in all, it's been a fun few days.

Have a good week!
