**Jenny and I are always asking ourselves, "Do other people laugh this much???" Because we certainly have our share of funny moments.

Scroll back up to Ben's second Halloween, 2009. He was a baby chick.

We decided to drive over to Jenny's parents' town and surprise them with a visit and a little early-bird trick-or-treeter. They lived about 45 minutes away, and we did not have Ben in his costume when we arrived in their little town. So I pulled off of the road into a gravel lot near a grain elevator. We took Ben out of his carseat and dressed him in his full costume - tights and all. Well, the costume was so fat and bulky that we couldn't get Ben back in his seat. So we decided to let him ride in Jenny's lap from there to the house. It was just a few blocks, and this was definitely a one stoplight town.

As we drove down the main street, we noticed a State Trooper coming in the opposite direction.

Jenny exclaimed, "Slow Down! Ben isn't in his car seat and I don't want to attract attention."

I looked at her and said - somehow with a straight face - "Not attract attention? Honey, he's dressed like a bright yellow chicken."

Guess you had to be there - still makes me laugh.

Start Your Engines

Last Tuesday was Western Day at Mother's Day Out.

Would you just look at these little cowboys...

It's so hard to believe tomorrow is the first day of October. Around our house from this point until December 31 it's basically eat or be eaten.

We have so much going on, and each fall seems to go by faster with more and more to do.

Our church is in the process of completing a decade-long relocation process by which we will leave our original, downtown location and finish our campus across town. Basically 60% of the building is designated for preschool and children's ministry, so Todd's involvement in this has been major.

We plan to vote on November 4, with construction beginning immediately following the holidays. Say a prayer...it's about to get crazy!

Enjoy the cooler weather this week!

Vacation

We took our first vacation as a family of 4 back in mid-August. We took Ben when he was 6 months, 18 months, and 30 months, but skipped last year because of financial reasons, combined with a newborn and an active three-year old...we knew we wouldn't survive the trip down.

But the timing was perfect this year - Ben and Luke both did extraordinarily well on the trip down.

The week started out with heavy rain on Monday, so we hit the Destin outlet mall and killed the day there, picking up some back to school clothes for Ben.

From Tuesday morning on, the weather was perfect.  So thankful that we got out before Isaac showed up. Our friends Josh, Hillary and baby Sadie didn't fare as well...read their story HERE. Still, they caught some adorable pics of Miss Priss before they had to head back north. Thankfully they're planning another trip down in late fall.

Ringlets anyone?

One of maybe two sweet, brotherly moments the entire week.

Not sure what he's explaining to him in this one, but I love it.

This was the other brotherly moment I referenced.

What on earth did we do to deserve a child this beautiful???

What on earth did I do to deserve a wife and boys like this???

I love this pic - even if I do look like I have left sided paralysis!

Countdown

We are T minus 23 days until our vacation. I am so ready it's not even funny. This has been a long, hard summer. We love going in August because we get to anticipate it all summer, but this is the latest we have ever gone...rates and availability and all pushed it back a bit. Still, we're ready. Ben talks about it every day.

With a host of issues last year, the least of which involving two kids, one of which was only 5 months old, we did not make it to Florida. So, it's been long enough. It's amazing to see how much Ben has changed from year to year...

August, 2008. 5 months old.

August, 2009. 17 months old.

August, 2009, 29 months old

There's no place like it.

And it just can't get here fast enough.
